"Deep Dive" into the modeller-functions

Add Sheet

Add Sheet Input form for the name of a new Visio sheet to be added to the current process level. Default name is the name of the current sheet appended by a unique process level index in parentheses.

Edit Documentation

Edit Documentation By using the Documentation option on any element within the diagram, you may add an additional description for the selected element. Use the multiline edit form to insert your unformatted text. By closing the form using the OK button, your text or description will be saved in the object model.

Define Elements to be Identical

Identical Visio Shapes (Sharing Visio Shapes) Due to size restrictions, which apply to most output devices (letter, A4, etc.), it often happens that a business process may have to be spread over several Visio sheets within the same process level. These business processes sometimes contain elements (e.g. Lanes), which need to appear on more than one sheet, though they represent only a single element instance within the whole business process. The Process Modeler supports the extension of “Identical Shapes” for […]

Context menu

Context menu The context menu is called by right mouse click on an element. Every sort of element has a specific context menu with a series of different functions or dialogs.

BPMN 2.0 Layout Improver

BPMN 2.0 Layout Improver The feature „Process Layout” aims at correcting depiction problems in process models. It does not completely layout the diagram but supports you in unifying the alignment of and distances between elements as well as in solving connection deficiencies. The feature is comprised of four functions each of which is described in the subsequent sections. For each menu a configuration dialog provides one option which determines the horizontal distance between elements assigned by the distribution function. Using […]

Name Inconsistency Found

Name Inconsistency Found This dialog can appear when the element being loaded does not contain any labels that match the text on the shape. This is usually the result of editing shapes without using Process Modeler, e.g. on machines where Process Modeler was not installed. BPMN 1.2 Choose whether you want to keep the shape’s text or if you want the shape’s text to be replaced by the original element’s name. BPMN 2.0 Choose whether you want to keep the […]

Cleanup Unreferenced Elements

Unreferenced Elements Use this dialog to list and/or remove unreferenced Global Tasks, Data Stores or Data Objects. Caution: Even though the elements listed are not referenced by any element in the current diagram, they may still be used by external documents.

Generate and Update Title Block

Default Title Block Using this dialog, you may create, edit and delete default title blocks for a selection of sheets (single sheet, process level or whole diagram). Create Default Title Block Select the Create option. To create default title blocks on all sheets (for the whole diagram or current process level), regardless if already one exists or not, choose the Recreate on all sheets option. With this option, all existing default title blocks were exchanged by the new one. To […]

Compare and Update Models against former Revisions

Comparison and Update This dialog enables you to compare the actual diagram with another version stored in the repository or in the file system, and afterwards update the currently opened model with changes of the other version. The file format can be Visio (.vsd) or BPMN-XML (.bpmn). If the file is stored in the file system, choose the button “>>>” in the section External Source to locate it. If the file is stored in the repository, choose the button “>>>” in the section Team […]

Model quality

Model quality How well do your models conform to the Method & Style guidelines? Benchmark your models with some best practice quality measures! The quality of your models depends highly on the goals you set for your model. One goal every modeler shares is clearly the readability of his BPMN models. Process Modeler supports you with the principles for good modeling: Correctness Relevance Efficiency Clearness Comparability Good composition Applying the quality benchmarks and, of course, reviewing the above principles, will lead […]
